The South African Youth Climate Change Coalition (SAYCCC) congratulates Miss Barbara Dallas Creecy for her appointment to the cabinet as Minister of Environment, Forestry & Fisheries.
As an organization that is for and led by the youth, who are young environmentalists and climate justice activists, we fully support this decision and we are looking forward for continued efforts in response to climate change and environmental issues.
We acknowledge that there is still a gap that needs to be bridged to integrate the youth on climate action. And we are hoping for strengthened efforts to reinforce intergenerational equity. Intergenerational equity is an integrated approach, concerning the wellbeing and equity of current and future generations, who most likely will face difficult living conditions in a changing climate, but who are not responsible for causing them.
It is also our hope that Ms Creecy will strengthen the voice of South African youth, and ensure the full, equal and meaningful participation of youth in all activities, processes and platforms for climate action.
We wish Ms Creecy the best of luck on her new role, and we look forward to working with her to discuss best possible solutions in attaining a zero carbon and resilient society which the future generation will be able to enjoy.
On behalf of South African Youth Climate Change Coalition
Miss Sindiswa Ntanzi,
