The SAYCCC National Team comprising of ten young climate activists is meeting today, 25 and 26 April 2019, in Durban. The meeting’s purpose is to process the organization’s 2019-2020 National Annual Plan.
The meeting is happening in the aftermath of heavy rains and flooding that hit across the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal, destroying properties and causing deaths of about 70 people, especially in Durban and Amanzimtoti. The SAYCCC is adamant that these extreme weather events are caused by global warming or climate change which is human induced. Climate change must be understood as a crisis for which we’re all responsible. We must ensure that the climate policies are aligned with environmental projection, human rights, safety and security, because when these natural disasters take place, they risks put everything at risk.
